Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanic is a critical role responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of the Martin Marietta Ready‑Mix fleet and mobile equipment. This position ensures that all concrete mixers, tractors, and heavy machinery (such as loaders and trailers) are maintained to the highest safety and performance standards. The goal is to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency through a combination of rigorous preventative maintenance and rapid‑response corrective repairs in both shop and field environments.
KEYDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize advanced computer diagnostic software and precision measuring tools to troubleshoot complex engines, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Diagnose and repair specialized Ready‑Mix equipment, including hydraulic mixer drums, discharge chutes, and computerized batch‑control sensors.
- Conduct thorough inspections and repairs on truck air brake systems and steering/suspension components in strict accordance with DOT and company regulations.
- Execute routine PM services (oil changes, filter replacements, greasing) on a fleet of Ready‑Mix trucks and support equipment.
- Cleans, lubricates, and performs preventative maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Troubleshoots and rewires electrical systems.
- Dismantles and reassembles heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools, as needed.
- Overhauls and tests machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Perform comprehensive pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections to identify potential wear or damage before they lead to mechanical failure.
- Monitor and replace wear items such as rollers, liners, and hoses to ensure the longevity of the mixer units.
- Utilize welding (Stick/MIG) and cutting torches to repair truck frames, mixer drums, and plant‑related stationary equipment.
- Accurately complete work orders, parts requests, and maintenance logs via digital or manual tracking systems to maintain a clear service history.
- Assist in monitoring parts inventory and identifying required supplies to prevent maintenance delays.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment; assist in the disposal of hazardous materials (oil, coolant) according to environmental standards.
High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience, Trade School or appropriate Certifications.
Work ExperienceMinimum of 3u20135 years of experience in heavy equipment or on‑highway truck maintenance. Direct experience with Ready‑Mix concrete trucks and their specialized hydraulic/mechanical components is a significant advantage.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesGeneral knowledge of heavy equipment operations, systems and components (engines, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic), repair methods, and common issues.
