Low Voltage Technician

This role focuses on installing and supporting low voltage systems in a variety of commercial and industrial environments, with a strong emphasis on fiber, CAT 6, and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). You will perform cable pulling, terminations, and equipment connections, while assisting with general labor tasks on active construction sites. The position requires consistent collaboration with a lead technician, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to interpret blueprints and service documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Install low voltage systems, including fiber, CAT 6, COAX, DAS, and related infrastructure in commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Pull cable and wire through conduit, cable tray, basket tray, ladder rack, and other pathways, ensuring neat, organized, and code-compliant installations.
  • Hook up cables to data center and large equipment, including Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management (EPM) systems.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, specifications, and other service documents to complete installations accurately and to quality standards.
  • Perform general labor tasks such as job site cleanup, material handling, and assisting with setup and teardown of work areas.
  • Take direction from lead technicians and supervisors, follow instructions precisely, and support the team in completing project scopes.
  • Work with fire alarm, lighting control, cable tray, DAS, and innerduct installations as part of broader electrical and technology projects.
  • Operate scissor lifts and forklifts as needed to access elevated work areas and support installation activities, following all safety procedures.
  • Measure, cut, and install metal components such as ladder racks and cable trays, including use of band saws and other cutting tools.
  • Use and maintain a full set of basic hand tools and test equipment, including multimeters, butt-sets, toners/wands, and coax compression or hex crimp tools.
  • Work safely at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces while lifting and moving materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Support controls work and low voltage construction tasks in data centers, healthcare facilities, resorts/hotels, manufacturing plants, power stations, and office buildings.
  • Participate in site orientations and adhere to all safety, reporting, and quality requirements on each project.
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance, reliability, and strong tenure by maintaining a stable work history and commitment to the trade.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of true low voltage construction experience.
  • Proven ability to install cable, pull wire, and follow detailed instructions from supervisors and lead technicians.
  • Experience pulling CAT 6 cable and connecting it to large equipment, including BMS and EPM systems.
  • Hands-on experience with low voltage installation, electrical cable pulling, conduit, and controls work.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and other service documents, including reporting and quality requirements.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to effectively read and write to support documentation and communication needs.
  • Capability to work at heights, off ladders, and in confined spaces while lifting up to 50 pounds and moving up to 75 pounds.
  • Experience working outdoors and using hand and power tools in construction environments.
  • Demonstrated cable pulling experience, including COAX, fiber, CAT 6, and other low voltage cabling.
  • Ability to pull wire and oversee or assist with conduit installations and wire pulling tasks.
  • Competence using band saws and measuring and cutting metal for ladder racks and cable trays.
  • Ownership and regular use of a full set of basic hand tools, including screwdrivers, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, cable stripper, insulated crimping tool, flashlight, and gloves.
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as multimeters, butt-sets, toners/wands, and coax compression and/or hex crimp tools.
  • Self-motivated, positive, and professional demeanor with a strong work ethic and desire to build a career in low voltage.
  • Good tenure and reliable work history, demonstrating commitment and consistency.
  • Ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification prior to starting work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in data centers and on large-scale electrical and technology projects.
  • Experience in installing cable trays, basket trays, ladder racks, and related support systems.
  • Familiarity with Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and innerduct installations.
  • Exposure to fire alarm and lighting control systems on commercial projects.
  • Experience operating scissor lifts and forklifts in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Interest in developing a long-term career in low voltage construction and technology.
  • Comfort working in healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, power generation, and office environments.
  • Ability to manage personal tools and maintain them in good working condition.
