This role supports the commissioning team by ensuring electrical systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with Client specifications, project requirements, safety standards, and operational objectives to enable a safe and successful plant start-up.
Key Responsibilities- Verify installation of electrical systems and equipment, including: MV/LV cables, cable tray systems, switch gear, motors control centers (MCCs), distribution boards, power and distribution transformers, UPS systems, motors, and field electrical equipment.
- Ensure installations comply with single line diagrams, wiring and termination drawings, cable schedules and layouts.
- Inspect cable terminations, glands, labeling, grounding, and earthing.
- Perform pre‑commissioning activities, including cable continuity and identification checks, insulation resistance testing, and earth resistance testing.
- Verify systems are complete and ready for energization.
- Ensure electrical equipment and panels are clean and prepared for commissioning.
- Perform and assist with electrical testing: continuity and polarity testing, insulation resistance testing, and functional testing of control circuits.
- Support engineers during commissioning of switch gear, MCCs, transformers, protection systems, motors (including rotation and no‑load testing).
- Record test results and report defects or abnormal findings.
- Assist with electrical system energization under the direction of the Electrical Lead.
- Follow approved switching procedures and isolation plans.
- Verify system readiness through safety checks and equipment inspections.
- Monitor equipment during energization and immediately report any abnormalities.
- Support commissioning activities for motors and variable speed drives, lighting and small power systems, UPS systems and battery banks.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical faults and equipment issues.
- Monitor equipment performance during commissioning and start‑up.
- Monitor electrical systems following energization and during plant start‑up.
- Assist with identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving electrical issues.
- Support reliable operation during initial commissioning and plant ramp‑up.
- Complete and maintain commissioning checklists, test sheets and protection relay documentation, cable test reports, and energization records.
- Report commissioning progress, defects, and punch list items to the Electrical Lead.
- Assist in updating red‑line drawings and as‑built documentation.
- Identify and document electrical punch list items.
- Support the timely completion and closure of punch list items before system handover.
- Assist in preparing completed systems for handover to Operations.
- Comply with all electrical safety procedures and HSE policies, including Permit to Work and Lock Out, Tag Out, Try Out (LOTOTO) requirements.
- Wear appropriate PPE for all electrical work activities.
- Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Participate in toolbox talks, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safety meetings.
