Position: Associate OSHA Officer (61035168)

Job Responsibilities

Acts as Unit Training Coordinator and leads monthly safety meetings and employee orientation programs. Responsible for conducting or scheduling all training sessions for unit employees on the following topics:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Chainsaw
  • Confined Space
  • CPR
  • PPE
  • Excavation
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • First Aid
  • Forklift
  • Lockout/Tagout
  • Flagging
  • Work Zone Safety
  • Hazardous Communications
  • Spill Prevention and Control
  • Other Safety and Environmental Measures training

Inspects maintenance facilities for OSHA compliance, ensures operations comply with DHEC, OSHA and SCDOT rules, and serves as Unit Environmental Control Coordinator, Spill Coordinator and member of the SPCC and SWIPP teams. Conducts inspections, provides training, maintains records, submits reports and coordinates storage and disposal of hazardous waste. Monitors and promotes recycling programs, coordinates with inspectors, follows up on clean‑up projects and documents findings with recommendations.

Reviews maintenance activities for OSHA compliance and advises Resident Maintenance Engineers and crew supervisors. Investigates workers’ compensation claims, coordinates First Report of Injury, and maintains required OSHA and Department paperwork. Coordinates Hazard Communication programs and maintains Safety Data Sheets. Inspects fire extinguishers monthly and coordinates annual third‑party inspections. Performs office duties including answering phones, radio communication and taking requests. Utilizes incident data to develop and evaluate occupational safety and health programs.

Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, which may require extended hours or 12‑hour shifts. May be required to work overtime, nighttime and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.

Minimum And Additional Requirements
  • A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene programs.
  • A bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field may substitute for the required work experience.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and manipulating objects. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside the normal schedule, especially during inclement weather or emergencies.
