TRS Staffing is hiring a Controls Engineer for a leading manufacturing client in Spartanburg, SC.
Position SummaryPartner with manufacturing operations to ensure engineering designs, procedures, and processes are effectively developed and implemented to optimize production equipment controls and performance. This role is responsible for electrical and electronic engineering activities related to the maintenance, programming, troubleshooting, and enhancement of automated and semi-automated manufacturing equipment. The position also supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of engineering standards and best practices across the organization.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Lead and support Electricians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic control systems.
- Oversee and document all PLC preventive maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with Engineers and external contractors on the design and development of equipment schematics in compliance with NEC and applicable industry codes.
- Develop standardized work processes and apply structured problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes of equipment downtime and drive corrective actions.
- Provide process engineering expertise and technical support for manufacturing operations.
- Lead training initiatives and implementation of Kaizen events while promoting Lean Manufacturing principles throughout the facility.
- Partner with manufacturing teams on continuous improvement projects focused on increasing efficiency, quality, and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, engineering standards, and management systems, including ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 requirements.
- Perform additional engineering-related duties and special projects as assigned.
- May occasionally be required to perform responsibilities outside those specifically outlined in this description.
- Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 3-5 years of experience with electronic controls, including RSLogix programming and Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley PLCs.
- Proven experience troubleshooting PLC systems and training others on PLC operation and utilization.
- PLC programming experience required.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and best practices.
- Familiarity with IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems is preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime as needed to support equipment uptime and production requirements.
- Occasional short-duration travel may be required.
- Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, non-hazardous fumes, heat, moderate noise levels, and frequent standing and walking.
- Must follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the manufacturing floor.
- Equipment operation requires appropriate training and adherence to established safety protocols to prevent injury.
