Health Teacher Position Overview

The Gorham School Department is seeking a passionate, student-centered educator to serve as a Middle School Health Teacher at Gorham Middle School. This position includes delivering comprehensive health education instruction to students in grades 68.

The successful candidate will foster a positive, inclusive learning environment where students develop essential wellness knowledge, healthy decision-making skills, and health literacy. The teacher will inspire students of varying learning styles through innovative, technology-enhanced approaches and cultivate an engaging curriculum that supports the physical, mental, and social-emotional growth of all students.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based health instruction for students in grades 68.
  • Develop students’ understanding of personal wellness, mental and emotional health, nutrition, and healthy choices.
  • Utilize differentiated instruction and varied assessment practices to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Assess student progress and provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and families.
  • Integrate technology and contemporary instructional practices into health education to enhance practice.
  • Cultivate a safe, supportive classroom climate that actively supports and engages all students.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, grade-level teams, and department members to share best practices.
  • Participate actively in the school community outside of the classroom environment.
  • Support the school’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate regularly with families.
  • Participate in professional learning and continuous instructional improvement.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS Required
  • Valid State of Maine Department of Education Health Certification (#520).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of middle school adolescent development and classroom management.
  • Demonstrated capacity to utilize technology to enhance instructional practice.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
  • Experience as a 68 Health teacher.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction, innovative teaching approaches, and assessment.
  • Demonstrated interest in contributing to the broader school community outside of the classroom.

Salary range: $48,759-$103,126
