The Commercial Credit Team Lead will supervise a team of Commercial Credit Analysts and work to ensure effective and efficient management and overall productivity of the Commercial Credit Department. Compiling and analyzing financial statements, business plans, credit reports and other relevant information of various business entities and individuals to determine the degree of risk involved in requested or existing extensions of credit, including highly complex transactions.
The position will independently prepare clear and concise reports using a variety of analytical tools for use in decision‑making by Commercial Banking Officers, Senior Management, Loan Committees and the Board of Directors.
- Supports Commercial Credit Department Manager in managing the department’s ‘Work‑in‑Process’.
- Onboards new analysts via training and integration into bank procedures and systems.
- Responsible for daily oversight of a team of analysts, including but not limited to review of completed work requests, coaching and performance management, coordination of internal training, and addressing employee matters.
- Provides motivation and leadership for the development of staff members.
- Provides supervision for team of analysts, including quarterly discussion sessions, annual performance appraisals, and salary reviews.
- Analyzes credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
- Prepares reports that assess the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money including more complex Business Borrowers and Commercial Real Estate transactions.
- Evaluates customer records and loan structures and risk ratings based on earnings, balance sheet strength, payment history, management quality, guarantor strength and quality of collateral.
- Completes Loan Presentations, Annual Reviews, Status Reports, and Modifications of Loan Terms, including credit analyses and risk rating recommendations for submission to appropriate authority for approval for transactions of varying complexity.
- Understands and interprets Bank Regulations and Bank Policies to aid in compliance with and/or identification of exceptions.
- Assists in generating Reports to be used by Management, Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
- Assists in preparing and assembling Loan Committee and Board Committee Packages.
- Documents Loan Committee Meeting minutes, as needed.
- Provides the highest level of customer service, adheres to the Bank’s Core Values, and Service Promise.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably with concentration in Accounting, Economics, Finance or Business Administration and three or more years of commercial credit underwriting experience including commercial and industrial and commercial investment real estate borrowers; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Commercial Banking Certificate Courses in areas of Cash Flow Analysis, Financial Statement Analysis, Commercial Loan Structuring and/or Appraisal & Evaluation Development & Review offered through Risk Management Association, Center for Financial Training, American Bankers Association, and New England School of Banking are preferred.
- Superior knowledge of Banking Regulations including but not limited to Appraisal Requirements, Community Reinvestment Act, Fair Lending, Flood Insurance Requirements, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act and Truth in Lending.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage in successful analytical conversation and accurately and precisely document analysis and recommendations.
- Proficiency in MSWord, PowerPoint, and Excel; ability to learn Bank technology.
- Outstanding internal and external customer focus.
- Prolonged periods working at a computer.
- Handling of light materials and supplies (up to 15 pounds) on occasion.
- Work spaces are generally comfortable and pleasant.
- Periodic travel may be required.
