The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. The incumbent must be a graduate of a 2‑year associate degree or a 4‑year Baccalaureate Degree National Board for Respiratory Care (NRBC) approved Respiratory Therapy Program. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. The RRT must have current BLS certification, with ACLS, PALS, and NRP preferred.

The RRT must hold a current Maine State professional license and meet the current NBRC license eligibility requirements. The incumbent must possess good clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The RRT must also have a good technical aptitude for operating highly complex medical equipment. The RRT performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job.

Responsibilities
  • Mechanical ventilator initiation and management.
  • Insertion and/or care of artificial airways.
  • Patient assessment, medication administration and recommendation for therapy, and interpretation of clinical data.
  • Airway clearance and bronchoscopy assistance as appropriate.
  • Participation in the Rapid Response Team, Code Team, Trauma Team, and Sepsis Team as applicable.
  • Participate in multi‑disciplinary rounds in critical care areas and participate in education of students/other staff.
  • Protect patients or staff members using safety equipment.
  • Maintain a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; report and directly address environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when observed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other Information
  • Maine State professional license and meet the current NBRC license eligibility requirements.
  • BLS certification to be obtained prior to independently caring for patients and kept current.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential.
  • Clinical skills per the Maine State Board of Respiratory Therapy Practitioners Chapter 97.
