Qualifications:

* IDOE teaching license in Special Education

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Hold and articulate high expectations for student learning, achievement, and behavior

* Communicate to staff the impact of various disabilities on student academics, behavioral, and/or social development and how that affects individual expectations.

* Utilize knowledge of the impact of various disabilities on student academic, behavioral and/or social development in planning instruction.

* Implement standards-based instruction

* Make data driven instructional decisions

* Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of free, appropriate, public education (FAPE) and least restrictive environment (LRE)

* Provide instruction that demonstrates use of research based most effective teaching strategies

* Select and utilize appropriate assistive technology to address the strengths and needs of learners

* Deliver instruction that matches the learning needs of all students

* Communicate instruction clearly and effectively

* Provide accurate, specific, and timely feedback to students

* Engage students in the process of data driven decision making

* Include students, when appropriate and always after age 14, in the case conference process, including the development of the Individual Education Plan

* Provide effective classroom management that includes teaching routines and procedures to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment

* Create active learning environment and collaboratively design settings that foster an enriching, nurturing, and safe climate where diversity and academic risk taking are valued.

* Collaborate with classroom teachers in modifying the learning environment to manage behaviors and implement behavior intervention plans

* Collaborate with paraprofessionals to guide instruction and support of students. Provides input on paraprofessional performance review with supervisor.

* Participate in curriculum review and design

* Effectively collaborate with department and/or grade-level teachers and other colleagues

* Effectively implement district and building initiatives

* Remain current on instructional practices in education

* Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning

* Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives

* Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students

* Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports in a timely and consistent manner

* Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly

* Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment/materials, and facilities

* Abide by state statues, school board policies and regulations

* Serve on committees as assigned

* 1:1 environment with Chromebooks

* Working knowledge of the Google suite including Google Classroom

* Other duties as assigned by building principal and/or supervisor

Requirements:

* Bachelors License

* Complete and pass an Expanded Criminal Background and CPS Check

Compensation:

* Competitive pay depending upon experience

Contracted days: 184 staff days

Reports to:

Building Principals and/or Building Supervisor
