Work-Based Learning (WBL) Teacher
The Work-Based Learning Teacher develops, coordinates, and delivers career-connected learning experiences for junior high and high school students. This role bridges classroom instruction with authentic workplace experiences, helping students build employability skills, exploring career pathways, and transition successfully into postsecondary education, training, or the workforce. The WBL Teacher collaborates with staff, families, and business partners to provide high-quality, age-appropriate career exploration (grades 7–9) and career preparation experiences (grades 10–12).
EssentialFunctions
- Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive Work-Based Learning program aligned to state standards and district goals.
- Coordinate a range of WBL experiences, including:
- Career awareness and exploration activities (grades 7–9)
- Job shadowing, mentorships, and industry speaker programs
- Internships, cooperative education, work placements (grade 11–12)
- Project-based learning tied to real-world industry needs
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local employers, community agencies, and post-secondary institutions.
- Create and manage student placement procedures, including applications, interviews, and worksite matching.
- Teach WBL-related courses such as employability skills, career development, and pathway-specific preparation coursework.
- Provide instruction on workplace competencies including communication, problem solving, teamwork, professionalism, and digital literacy.
- Integrate industry-recognized standards, certifications, and career pathway requirements into instruction.
- Use data to differentiate learning and support diverse learners.
- Valid state teaching license with appropriate endorsement (e.g., CTE, business, family & consumer sciences, or Work-Based Learning certification as required).
- Demonstrated knowledge of career pathways, employability skills, and workforce development principles.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
School year - 184 days per year; 40 hours per week
