Description WHAT YOU WILL DO EVERYDAY

As a Fraud Specialist II you independently support the Credit Union’s fraud prevention efforts through investigation, analysis, and resolution of moderately complex fraud matters. This role develops specialized expertise in either account fraud or card fraud while continuing to support both areas as needed. The position serves as a trusted resource to members and employees and applies sound judgment to identify risks, support regulatory compliance and mitigate fraud losses.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

45% Fraud Case Investigation, Analysis, and Loss Mitigation. Serves as a resource to members and employees regarding moderately complex account fraud, card fraud, scam activity, fraud prevention, and account security concerns. Reviews, analyzes, investigates, and resolves moderately complex fraud cases within assigned specialty areas. Evaluates suspicious activity, identifies potential fraud patterns or trends, and takes appropriate action to mitigate losses. Performs duties of Fraud Specialist I as needed and escalates complex or high-risk matters when appropriate.

30% Fraud Monitoring, Regulatory Compliance, and Prevention. Maintains a working knowledge of Regulation E, Regulation CC, UCC provisions, Identity Theft Red Flags requirements, and applicable fraud risks. Ensures assigned cases and disputes are handled within applicable regulatory and departmental timelines, including provisional credit requirements. Evaluates fraud trends and emerging scam activity affecting the credit union and its members and recommends fraud prevention measures, procedural enhancements, or fraud rule adjustments to reduce losses and strengthen controls.

Promotes fraud awareness through education and collaboration with employees and members.

15% Cross-Functional Collaboration and Case Support. Collaborates with the BSA team regarding potential SAR review, partners with departments involved in fraud investigations, and coordinates appropriate referrals to Member Solutions and other business units. Maintains effective working relationships to support investigations, loss recovery efforts, and member resolution.

10% Professional Development and Process Improvement. Participates in cross‑training activities to expand knowledge of fraud specialty areas. Maintains industry knowledge through training, educational programs, webinars, and professional development opportunities. Assists management in identifying opportunities to enhance procedures, job aides, operational guidelines, and departmental processes.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED Experience

3 - 5 years of investigative, fraud, or research experience within the financial industry.

Education / Certifications / Licenses

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business, finance, data analytics, or a related field preferred. Equivalent fraud, investigative, financial services, or research experience may be considered.
