SummaryMain job duties include picking, packing, and shipping orders, as well as helping Receiving unload container trucks. Also serves as backup driver, driving truck to transport product in packaged form from the warehouse to various client locations over an established route and deliver product by performing the following duties.

- Performs appropriate maintenance checks on the designated truck each morning (e.g., checking the lights, tires, etc.), performs routine maintenance as needed, and reports any maintenance-related issues or concerns to management.
- Begins customer route for the particular day (with routes varying by day of the week) and drives to each appropriate customer location.
- Obeys traffic laws, and drives in a safe, careful, and courteous manner while representing the company in public.
- Reads maps and follows written or verbal geographic directions.
- Works with the Receivers at each customer location to become aware of and follow each client’s preferred in-coming traffic and delivery protocols.
- Unloads and delivers appropriate product at each designation.
- At each delivery, obtains customer signature on the packing list to confirm receipt, provides the customer with one copy of the signed packing list, and brings the signed copy of the packing list back to the warehouse.
- Picks up checks from certain customers, as noted in the packing list.
- Occasionally picks up product from customers as well, such as product to be returned to Optronics, and provides the customer with a returned goods authorization to confirm pick up of the product to be returned.
- Occasionally picks up finished product from local vendors.
- At each customer location, completes the Driver Log (with the appropriate date noted at the top of the log) to log the time arrived, time left, and odometer reading.
- Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive any additional or updated delivery instructions.
- Reports significant delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to management.
- Maintain records, such as vehicle logs and maintenance history.
- Upon completion of the delivery route and return to the office, submits the fully completed daily Driver Log to the Warehouse Supervisor.
- Submits to Customer Service all Optronics copies of the signed packing lists so Customer Service can then invoice the customer for the shipment, as well as customer checks that were picked up.
- Regularly cleans the inside and outside of the delivery truck.
- Takes the truck to the designated service provider quarterly for maintenance.
- Loads designated truck for the next workday (typically fully completed by the Driver but at times completed with the help of others on the Warehouse team).
- Verifies the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsAbility to pass forklift certification training required.
KnowledgeThorough understanding of traffic laws and defensive driving techniques.
