North Dakota Health & Human Services is seeking a detail oriented and motivated Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to support the agency's Finance Division.
As the Senior Accounts Payable Specialist, you will review payment requests from multiple sources to ensure compliance and accuracy before providing the final approval for payment. When discrepancies are identified, or questions arise, you will research the issue, coordinate with the appropriate parties, and help resolve the issue or provide requested information. You will also provide backup support to other members of the Accounts Payable team and assist with special projects, as needed.

You will use good critical thinking skills and apply sound judgment to resolve discrepancies. Effective and professional communication skills are vital when working with internal team members, vendors, and staff from other state or federal agencies.
You must be highly motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills to consistently process large volumes of payables and meet approval deadlines.
You will play an important role in supporting the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of agency payments. Your education, experience, and professional skills will help you to perform your responsibilities in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, internal controls, and ethical standards.
To be considered for the Accounts Payable Specialist, you must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field and at least one (1) year of experience in a final payment approver capacity or two (2) years of experience performing directly similar accounts payable review and approval duties. Experience with People Soft Financials, specifically, Accounts Payable Module is preferred.
LocationND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model, and this position may work a hybrid remote/in-office schedule within North Dakota. If located outside of Bismarck, ND this position requires frequent travel to Bismarck for meetings and/or training.
