Position
Purpose:
The School Receptionist is responsible for managing all internal and external people who present themselves at the school’s front office. This includes providing information and directing customers to other appropriate offices, announcing their arrival to administrators and applicable staff, and overseeing the sign‑in/sign‑out sheet. The School Receptionist will greet and interact with visitors to the school in a positive and professional manner, including in person, on the phone and in writing.
The School Receptionist will also provide general clerical support to the school office staff and assigned administrators.
- Serve as receptionist in front office of the school
- Operate multi‑line telephone system to receive incoming calls and messages
- Greet parents, staff and the public and direct patrons to destinations and sites
- Answer and refer telephone and in‑person inquiries to appropriate personnel
- Takes messages as necessary
- Maintain familiarity with general information relevant to the Alamance‑Burlington School System
- Perform general secretarial and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, data entry, filing, phone management) to support office operations
- Provide assistance with special projects
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal
- High school graduation or GED
- Some experience working in an office is required
Skills and Abilities
- Effectively greet and welcome visitors in a professional and courteous manner
- Contact administrative staff as appropriate when situations become difficult while assisting visitors
- Communicate with various groups of people, including parents, teachers, transportation, administrators and outside agencies
- Adapt to changing work priorities
- Meet deadlines and schedules and independently set priorities
- Work as a team member with colleagues
- Communicate applicable policies and procedures with general knowledge of the characteristics and components of the District
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters
- High School Diploma/GED
- Experience providing office support or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Proven demonstration of excellent telephone and interpersonal skills
- Proven demonstration of ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Ability to communicate in Spanish and English
- Ability to use office software and office equipment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google, school‑related software, copies and fax machines
- Experience handling constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines
