Role Description The Substitute Teacher Assistant role is a temporary, on-site position based in Graham, NC. This role supports classroom teachers by assisting with daily instruction, reinforcing lesson plans, and helping manage student activities and transitions. The Substitute Teacher Assistant helps maintain an orderly, safe learning environment, provides guidance to students during classwork, and supports small-group or one-on-one learning as directed by the teacher.
Responsibilities may include preparing materials, organizing learning resources, supervising students in classrooms and common areas, and following school policies and procedures. The individual in this role collaborates with teaching staff and school administration to ensure continuity of learning when regular assistants are unavailable.
Qualifications
- Experience or training in assistant teaching and classroom support, with the ability to follow teacher instructions and school procedures.
- Strong communication skills, including clear, respectful interaction with students, staff, and families.
- Background or coursework in education and child development, or related experience in school or youth settings.
- Basic proficiency in mathematics to support students with classroom assignments and activities.
- Demonstrated ability and comfort working with children of varied ages, needs, and learning styles.
- Dependability, flexibility, and professionalism in a school environment, including adherence to confidentiality and safety guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or a degree in education or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to pass any required background checks and meet school and state compliance requirements.
