Overview
The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking applicants for a Crime Scene Investigation Technician within the CSI Unit. A CSI Technician documents, photographs, videos and processes crime scenes, as well as other evidence inside the Sheriff’s Office. Crime Scene Investigation Technicians compile the information into neat, legible reports for detectives, officers, outside agencies and the court system.
Responsibilities- Assemble required documents and information as needed for investigations.
- Obtain and maintain certifications applicable for the position.
- Write accurate reports for criminal investigations.
- Assist with investigations involving all types of crimes or suspected crimes.
- Testify in court, prepare the appropriate documents as needed.
- Use discretion effectively to determine a proper course of action consistent with the department’s mission and values.
- Carry out any or all other duties as directed by the Sheriff or his designee.
- Attend CSI relevant training (local and out of state).
- Maintain the confidence and trust of peers, superiors and the general public.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Must be able to successfully pass an oral interview, background check, polygraph examination and drug screening.
- Experience with duties closely related to documenting, photographing, construction or those described above, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in forensic science, biology, criminal justice or a closely related field.
Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
Work ScheduleThis is an FLSA non-exempt, civilian position. Work is on a rotational schedule; the normal work week is 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM one week and 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM the following week, Monday through Friday, forty (40) hours per week.
- Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to learn.
- Ability to report to duty on time and maintain regular attendance.
- Ability to be on an on‑call rotation and may be needed outside of the regular schedule.
- Must be able to perform evidence collection duties effectively in harsh, high‑stress, rapidly changing environments.
- Ability to use rational judgment.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for one’s actions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Ability to demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.
- Ability to be truthful, maintain a high level of confidentiality and be seen as credible in the workplace.
- Ability to use good judgment and discretion as it relates to interpreting policies and procedures.
- Use initiative and proper judgment when carrying out tasks and responsibilities.
- Problem solving/decision making – ability to find a solution for or deal proactively with work‑related problems.
Vision (Near, Distance, Peripheral, Color Vision, Depth Perception). The employee is regularly required to sit and use hands with general office equipment.
Location and ConditionsThis civilian position will be based out of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, Graham, NC. The position requires working in the field, possible inclement weather and within an office environment, interacting with commanders, supervisors, administrative staff, court personnel and all members of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.
