Position Summary

Piedmont Metals is seeking a motivated and quality-driven Structural Steel Welder/Fabricator to join our production team. This role is responsible for fabricating and assembling structural steel components by reading shop drawings and blueprints, performing accurate measurements, and completing Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) in accordance with AWS D1.1 standards.

Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.

Perform Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) in accordance with AWS D1.1 welding standards.

Measure, cut, fit, and assemble structural steel components to customer and engineering specifications.

Operate welding machines, fabrication equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently.

Inspect welds and fabricated assemblies to ensure quality, structural integrity, and compliance with specifications.

Perform layout, fitting, grinding, and finishing work as required.

Identify and report fabrication or quality issues to supervisors.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Follow all company safety policies, quality standards, and production procedures.

Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with other production duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.

Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and weld symbols.

Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum one (1) year of structural steel welding or fabrication experience.

Knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding standards.

Experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or heavy fabrication.

Current AWS welding certification or the ability to successfully complete a Piedmont Metals welding test.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols.

Knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding standards and fabrication best practices.

Experience using fabrication equipment, hand tools, grinders, saws, and measuring devices.

Basic math and measurement skills.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Reliable, safety-conscious, and quality-focused approach to work.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work throughout the shift.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.

Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment.

Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.

Ability to work in varying temperatures and manufacturing environments with exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, sparks, and welding fumes.

Ability to perform repetitive movements while maintaining quality and productivity.
