Nursing Aide Program Director

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

A qualified faculty member with leadership experience in nursing who is delegated the authority for direction of the nursing aide program and is responsible for the overall operation of the program. The director provides the liaison between the College, the Department of Community Colleges, Division of Health Service Regulation, the North Carolina Board of Nursing, clinical agencies, and other community health sources.

Alamance Community College department heads are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with a minimum of 5-18 on-campus credit or contact hours (teaching load) Monday through Friday. This teaching load is contingent upon additional responsibilities they may have, such as overseeing live projects and the number of faculty members they supervise. The specific teaching load for each Department Head will be determined and approved by the Academic Dean in conjunction with the Vice President of Instruction.

of Duties

As Department Head:

  • Coordinating the functions of the nurse aide department.
  • Directing curriculum development and implementation.
  • Facilitating program evaluation and making recommendations.
  • Maintaining contracts with agencies providing sites for learning experiences for students.
  • Identifying and assigning teaching responsibilities to full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Identifying and assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Appraising faculty performance.
  • Teaching according to the requirements mandated by the Division of Health Service Regulation and the North Carolina Board for nursing as well as the college load formula.
  • Serving on college standing and ad hoc committees.
  • Leading in the development and implementation of student and faculty policies.
  • Serving as liaison between the North Carolina Board of Nursing, the college, faculty, clinical agencies, and other departments at the college.
  • Submitting reports as required by the Division of Health Service Regulation, the North Carolina Board of Nursing, the Department of Community Colleges, and other agencies.
  • Providing an annual evaluation of each faculty member.
  • Assisting in recruitment, advisement, and registration of students.
  • As Faculty:

    • Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including hospitals and professional organizations.
    • Supervise and evaluate student progress, providing guidance and support.
    • Participate in ongoing program assessment and make improvements as necessary.
    • Maintains licensure/certifications and stays current with developments in Nursing and education.
    • Providing appropriate and effective instruction.
    • Providing relevant learning opportunities that promote student engagement and retention.
    • Creating meaningful assessments and evaluations of student work according to departmental standards.
    • Maintaining accurate student records, including course attendance to enhance retention and success.
    • Being available to students during office or lab hours for assistance.
    • Providing regular grade updates through Moodle gradebook.
    • Providing accurate, informed advising.
    • Maintaining accessible office or lab hours.
    • Attends faculty and staff meetings.
    • Attends Nursing pinning ceremonies and College's commencement ceremonies.
    • Understands College policies and procedures, degree requirements, and transfer agreements.
    • Providing students with current information regarding career opportunities, as appropriate.
    • Being informed about college services and support for students.
    • Manages inventory control including purchasing materials, supplies, equipment and tools.
    • Recruiting students, including participation in open houses, College events, and recruitment fairs.
    • Engaging in continuous improvement efforts.
    • Participating in student club activities and events.
    • Assisting with accreditation/regulatory reports.
    • Assisting with live projects as relevant.
    • Serve on College Committees and Nurse Aide Advisory Board.
    • Performs other duties as assigned that support the College mission and initiatives.
    • Supervisory Responsibilities This position has supervisory responsibilities.
    Typical Qualifications

    PROGRAM COORDINATOR

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Registered Nurse with an unencumbered license
    • License to practice nursing in North Carolina
    • Has at least two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in the United States
    • Has at least one (1) year (2000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in the provision of long-term care facility services in the United States demonstrated by:
      • Working in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital; or
      • Supervising or teaching students in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital.
    • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
      • Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) Provider certification.
