Overview
Benevolence Farm is a non-profit learning farm that grows herbs and flowers as part of a workforce development program for formerly incarcerated women.
Job DescriptionThe Farm Manager position involves growing herbs and flowers in partnership with our farmers-in-training, which includes weed and pest management, bed preparation, compost management, pruning, seeding, harvesting, and drying. The manager is also responsible for maintaining the physical infrastructure of farm buildings and structures. The Farm Manager is onsite Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 am – 5 pm to supervise the farming workforce development program in partnership with enterprise staff.
The manager is expected to maintain plant and animal health independently as needed. On-site times may vary by season. Opportunity to move into full-time after 90 days, based on performance evaluation.
- Passion for Benevolence Farm’s mission and shared values of centering the lived experiences of formerly incarcerated people.
- Desire to be outside during all seasons of the year and can lift up 50 lbs.
- Endurance to interact with a variety of insects and animals found in nature.
- Tolerance for being hot, dirty, and sweaty.
- Hold knowledge and experience of organic gardening practices or other horticulture and permaculture initiatives.
- Experience with leading small to medium-sized teams or projects.
- Effective communication skills.
- Understanding the benefits that come out of learning from our mistakes.
- Valid driver’s license, up-to-date car insurance, and access to personal transportation.
Compensation: Starting hourly wage: $16.50 / hr
