This is a full-time position, 40 hours/week, typically M-F. Flexibility is required to meet the department's needs, including days, evenings, and weekend sessions.

Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of North Carolina.

Must be a sworn law enforcement officer in the State of North Carolina with current certification.
Knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes and law enforcement procedures.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse community.
Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations and handle emergencies calmly and efficiently.
Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred but not required.
Familiarity with campus security practices and safety protocols preferred.
Position Description DescriptionThe Campus Police Officer is a sworn law enforcement professional responsible for promoting a safe and secure learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role combines traditional policing duties with a strong emphasis on community engagement, student support, and campus service.
Officers are expected to respond to emergencies, enforce laws and college policies, deter criminal behavior, and provide proactive safety education across campus. Successful candidates will demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and a collaborative mindset consistent with the mission of a learning institution.
Example of DutiesPatrol campus buildings, grounds, parking lots, and surrounding areas by vehicle, bicycle, or foot.
Respond promptly to calls for service, emergencies, disturbances, medical incidents, alarms, and safety concerns.
Enforce state laws, local ordinances, and college policies, including traffic and parking regulations.
Conduct investigations, write incident reports, issue citations, and make arrests when necessary.
Provide safety escorts, welfare checks, lock/unlock access, and general assistance to students and staff.
Participate in crime prevention programs, safety workshops, and orientation sessions for students and employees.
Assist with special events such as commencements, athletic activities, ceremonies, or campus visits.
Coordinate with local law enforcement, EMS, and fire services when additional support is needed.
Serve as a visible and approachable presence, building trust with the campus community.
