Job Purpose
Alamance County Department of Social Services is seeking a Social Worker Investigative/Assessment and Treatment (SW I/A&T) in the Child Protective Services Unit. The worker will provide in‑home services and primarily protect children under 18 and disabled adults under 21 who are alleged to be abused and/or neglected by their parents or caretaker or are dependent. This position requires thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, practices, policies, procedures, federal and state law, family dynamics, medical/behavioral/psychosocial problems and treatment theory.
Responsibilities- Initiate and conduct Family and Investigative Assessments.
- Respond to requests from all areas of child welfare, including follow‑up home visits for assessments, in‑home services, and foster care cases.
- Initiate Adult Protective Services and Adult Services cases and follow‑up contacts at homes or facilities.
- Transport clients safely and responsibly.
- Prepare investigative reports for the court, case records, narratives for all contacts made during the investigation, and treatment plans effectively and efficiently.
- Prepare for and testify as an expert witness in court cases and hearings.
- Work with the public who may not agree with the laws, rules, or policies of the process or program; motivate and interact to ensure the safety of all involved.
- Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work (Child Welfare Collaborative), plus one year of social work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work (Child Welfare Collaborative) plus one year of social work or counseling experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience.
- Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience.
- Four‑year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience.
- Four‑year college or university graduate with four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human service field.
- Equivalent combination of training and experience.
Provide a certified college transcript and a letter of reference upon request.
Computer SkillsProficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
License & CredentialsPossession of a valid N.C. driver’s license and a driving record in accordance with Alamance County policy.
Other Position InformationThis position is subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs, and client population. The role may require work during emergency or disaster situations and may involve overnight shelter staffing.
