Position: Teacher Resident (Tarleton Applicants Only)

Teacher Residency Program

Granbury ISD requires three references from former employers, college professors, supervisors, etc. with at least a minimum of two references being from previous supervisors. Granbury ISD will not accept references from friends or family members.

DUTY DAYS: 187

Primary Purpose

Participate in a year-long clinical teaching residency designed to prepare teacher candidates for Texas teacher certification. The Teacher Resident will apply research-based instructional practices, teaching strategies, classroom management techniques, and professional dispositions while working collaboratively with a Cooperating Teacher, Site Coordinator, and campus staff. The Teacher Resident will engage in planning, instruction, assessment, reflection, and continuous professional growth to develop the knowledge, skills, and ethical dispositions necessary to become an effective educator.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Admission to the Tarleton State University Teacher Education Program
• Enrollment in Teacher Residency I (EDUC 4391) and Teacher Residency II (EDUC 4692)
• Eligibility to participate in a year-long clinical teaching placement in an accredited Texas public school
• Completion of all program requirements and certification testing requirements as outlined by Tarleton State University and the Texas Education Agency

• Understanding of research-based instructional practices and teaching strategies
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, families, and school personnel
• Ability to plan, implement, assess, and reflect on instruction

• Ability to use technology to enhance teaching and learning
• Ability to analyze student data to improve instruction
• Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement

Experience:

• Successful completion of required field-based experiences within the Teacher Education Program

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Practices

  • Collaborate with the Cooperating Teacher to plan and implement instructional activities aligned to state standards and district curriculum.
  • Utilize research-based instructional strategies and effective teaching practices to support student learning.
  • Participate in co-planning and co-teaching experiences utilizing approved co-teaching models.
  • Design and deliver instruction for small groups, individual students, and whole-class settings as assigned.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and support student access to grade-level content.
  • Utilize instructional technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Incorporate student interests, cultural backgrounds, and learning needs into instructional planning.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom resources.
  • Collaborate with the Cooperating Teacher to implement assessment practices that measure student learning and inform instruction.
  • Participate in formal observations, walkthroughs, and Performance Observation Process (POP) Cycles.
  • Student Learning and Development

  • Establish positive relationships with students and support a safe, orderly, and engaging learning environment.
  • Assist students in developing critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and academic skills.
  • Monitor student progress and use assessment data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Support student achievement through intervention, remediation, enrichment, and individualized assistance when appropriate.
  • Maintain high expectations for all students and promote a positive learning climate.
  • Classroom Management and Organization

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining classroom routines, procedures, and behavior expectations.
  • Support effective classroom management practices that promote student engagement and learning.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
