PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures district wide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Valid Texas driver's license
Valid Texas journeyman plumber license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
Knowledge of plumbing codes and ordinances
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to use hand and power tools
Ability to speak, read, and understand English
Ability to safely lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs)
Experience:
Three years of experience in plumbing field
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
None
EQUIPMENT USED:
Hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch, welding equipment, sewer rooter, heavy equipment, including forklift, trencher, backhoe.personnel lift, ditch witch, pipe threading equipment, and sewer machine. Light truck or van.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working in confined spaces. Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of tools, equipment, and materials up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance. Frequent use of hand and power tools requiring repetitive hand motions and overhead work. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures and around dust, fumes, chemicals, gas lines, sewage, noise, and moving mechanical equipment.
Maintain concentration while diagnosing and repairing plumbing systems, reading blueprints, and responding to emergency situations. Frequent district wide travel and occasional after-hours or emergency call-out work required.
