The Production Supervisor is responsible for promoting employee safety and supervising production operations within assigned departments and work centers. This role ensures compliance with daily production plans, manufacturing schedules, and shipment requirements while maintaining high standards for quality, productivity, cost control, and workplace safety. The Production Supervisor is also responsible for employee training, performance management, and compliance with established company policies, procedures, regulations, and contractual requirements
Essential Duties & Responsibilities SafetyIdentify unsafe conditions and eliminate potential safety hazards. Investigate workplace incidents to fully understand root causes and implement appropriate corrective actions. Ensure incident reports are completed accurately and reviewed by the Director of Operations, including any required corrective actions. Analyze safety performance by department and implement improvements as needed. Regularly coach, encourage, and monitor employees to ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
Staffingand Training
Staff work centers appropriately based on workload requirements and production demands. Assign employees as needed to meet operational goals and make staffing recommendations to the Director of Operations. Train and cross‑train operators to support production schedules and workforce flexibility. Participate in and lead cross‑functional committees, in collaboration with the Director of Operations, focused on strategic initiatives such as OSR reduction, scrap reduction, material utilization, and safety improvements.
Measure operator performance and efficiency while providing coaching, training, and development opportunities. Track attendance, recognize strong performance, and promote employee engagement and accountability. Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, labor relations, benefits questions, and other personnel‑related matters.
Measure actual production performance against planned schedules by work center. Coordinate closely with the Planning Supervisor to ensure production schedules are accurate, achievable, and aligned with customer requirements.
Scrap Reduction and Quality ImprovementEnsure scrap is accurately reported within each work center. Investigate scrap trends and implement corrective actions to reduce waste. Analyze OSRs by work center and collaborate with operators to identify and resolve issues. Coordinate with Engineering and Maintenance teams to address equipment, process, and production challenges.
Productivity ManagementRegularly review operator performance to ensure productivity expectations are achieved. Utilize coaching, collaboration, and training to drive continuous improvement and employee development. Monitor production metrics and implement actions to improve operational efficiency.
Work Center OrganizationOrganize work centers to maximize efficiency, productivity, and workflow. Facilitate team meetings to identify opportunities for process improvements and problem‑solving. Ensure employees have the tools, resources, and support necessary to achieve departmental objectives. Maintain housekeeping standards and a clean, organized work environment. Reduce unnecessary material handling between departments and work centers. Develop and improve material staging methods to support efficient production and reduce downtime caused by material availability issues.
PerformanceMeasurement Labor Performance
Achieve a minimum earned labor efficiency of 70%. Reduce indirect labor through improved material handling, reduced rework, and effective workforce utilization.
