Special Education Teacher Job Description
Under the direction of the Building Principal and Special Education Coordinator, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities in Grades K-8;
Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State-mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
Woodland Park Academy is an inclusive school where students spend 80% or more of the day in the General Education classroom. Learning Support Services are provided but not limited to: push-in, pull-out, and consult service modalities.

Minimum Education al Requirements
- Shall possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Possession of a current Michigan teaching certificate (or equivalent) with a special education endorsement in autism, cognitive impairment, emotional impairment, learning disabilities, and/or physical or other health impairments.
- Ability to provide leadership in educational planning.
- Ability to prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional program.
- Ability to promote effective relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Ability to function effectively in a team and work within the strategic planning process.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching.
- Considerable knowledge of subjects and activities required in the field of specialization.
- Considerable knowledge of instructional methods applicable to the field of specialization.
- Considerable knowledge of the texts, materials, supplies, and equipment necessary in carrying out educational or recreational programs.
- Considerable knowledge of current literature, trends, and sources of information in the field of education.
- Ability to prepare examinations to test the attainment of students and interpret the results of tests.
- Ability to maintain discipline and develop rapport with children of special needs.
- Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Subject to a criminal records check as required by the Academy Board of Directors' policy and State Law.
It is the purpose of this position to meet the educational needs of students as stated in the Academy Board of Directors' policies, regulations, and established curriculum and meet the special education needs of students.
