Position: Angiography Technologist - Interventional Radiology- PT Days - Henry Ford Genesys Hospital

Angiography Tech

Dept: Interventional Radiology

Schedule: Part‑time, days, 6:30 am–5 pm. Variable on‑call weeknights, weekends, holidays.

On‑call obligations: up to four weekdays per month and one weekend per month. Holidays are based on contract language. No more than two of four summer holidays or three of five winter holidays on call.

General Summary

Perform angiograms, digital angiography, and invasive specialized radiologic procedures under the direction and supervision of an angiography radiologist. Prepare and position patients for procedures and operate complex specialized radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment to obtain quality diagnostic radiographs and images. Provide emergency angiographic services 24 hours a day standby. Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to care for the age group(s) served.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate complex radiographic equipment in the special suite with a high degree of technical skill.
  • Deliver quality patient care, including the use of universal precautions, assuring patient confidentiality and practicing appropriate medical ethics.
  • Assist physician specialists in sterile invasive procedures such as arterial and venous catheterization studies.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies and inventories in the special rooms.
  • Administer contrast agents under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Understand the various catheters, guide wires and needles used in invasive procedures.
  • Perform sterile surgical scrub techniques for vascular procedures.
  • Handle emergency medical situations proficiently.
  • Evaluate equipment malfunctions and report to the proper authority.
  • Assist in the instruction and training of students; serve as a technical resource for residents.
  • Apply subtraction techniques and utilize hospital computers and networking images.
  • Perform other related duties such as staff radiologic technologist, clerical tasks, and transportation of patients.
  • Ensure proper radiation protection against ionizing radiation.
  • Accurately bill procedures performed.
  • Represent the hospital positively both in and outside the work area, promoting the image of the Radiology Department and Henry Ford Genesys Hospital.
  • Properly identify patients, images, and radiographs.
  • Stay current on new developments, trends, equipment and procedures in the field and attend in‑services, seminars and educational programs.
  • Maintain all work areas in a neat and clean environment.
  • Schedule exams in angiography, answer phone calls, and organize films for copying or digitizing.
  • Essential Functions – Ability to be mobile and have normal manual dexterity; effective oral, written and telephone communication with staff, physicians and patients; assist, move, transfer and lift patients; mobile with standard radiological equipment; plan, follow directions and problem‑solve; teach and instruct; learn to operate hospital, radiology computer system and AGFA Network.
  • Working Conditions – Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards; subject to patient illnesses, communicable diseases and blood‑borne pathogens.

Education,

Licensure & Registration
  • Certified BLS Provider (Basic Life Support) credentialed from AHA obtained within 90 days of hire or job transfer.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from ARRT obtained prior to hire or job transfer. Must complete training under a special procedure radiologist for one year.
  • Associate's degree in radiologic technology.
  • Three years’ experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Analytical, interpersonal and guest‑relations skills to effectively interact with patients, staff and physicians.
Preferred
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Vascular‑Intrvn Radiography credentialed from ARRT.
