Schedule

Part‑time, 5:30 am – 4 pm (Mon‑Fri). No weekends or on‑call. Holidays as required.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize independent professional judgment, analytical skills, and the nursing process to provide a full range of delegated, interdependent, and independent nursing services to patients.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence, compassion, customer service orientation, focus on process and outcomes, and cost‑consciousness within the framework of the Seven Dimensions of Patient Care and Benner's Domains of Nursing Practice.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care planning following Nursing Problem Care Sets, clinical practice guidelines, and regulatory requirements to optimize length of stay, resource use, and quality outcomes.
  • Respect patients’ rights, dignity, values, culture, preferences, and expressed needs; assess and respond to patient/family educational needs across the continuum.
  • Apply pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic approaches to ensure patient comfort and pain relief; involve patients, families, and significant others in care planning.
  • Collaborate with families, hospital staff, and community agencies to develop discharge plans preparing patients for continued care.
  • Complete risk‑factor assessments, including fall, skin, VTE, and aspiration; initiate appropriate prevention bundles and medication reconciliation.
  • Document nursing interventions (NIC), outcomes (NOC), patient education, and evaluation consistently each shift.
  • Administer therapeutic regimens and basic nursing procedures (e.g., dressing change, catheterization, NG tube insertion, suctioning). Initiate standing orders and assist with activities of daily living.
  • Establish and maintain peripheral IV therapy; obtain body fluid and laboratory specimens; perform blood capillary glucose monitoring.
  • Administer medications, IVs, and blood products per established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare patients for surgery or invasive procedures; perform or assist with procedures as standards of care require.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment such as IV pumps, PCA pumps, epidural pumps, feeding pumps, and patient beds.
  • Monitor patient physiological parameters, identify meaningful changes, and intervene appropriately; utilize SBAR or similar tools for communication.
  • Recognize acute changes in respiratory, neurologic, cardiac, and urinary status; respond with direct interventions and notify appropriate physicians or specialists.
  • Respond to life‑threatening emergencies, including initiating CPR, assembling equipment, and immediate interventions.
  • Provide emotional support and resources to families in crisis or grieving.
  • Communicate with departments and physicians to ensure smooth patient transitions and optimal care continuity.
  • Monitor individual length of stay; report potential discharge issues to case manager and nurse manager.
  • Identify and address ethical issues related to patient care, including advanced directives.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations.
  • Promote a safe environment, including appropriate use of restraints and universal precautions.
  • Assist in evaluating new products, procedures, and nursing practices; support quality monitoring and improvement activities.
  • Participate in teaching and mentoring of student nurses and new staff.
  • Lead and support the nursing team by communicating expectations, observing work, and providing direction.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing education, yearly safety training, and participation in departmental councils.
Education / Experience Requirements
  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing, obtained within 2 months of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Certified BLS Provider (Basic Life Support) credentialed from the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire date or job transfer date; or Certified Instructor.
  • Graduate of an approved professional (RN) nursing program.
  • Approximately 3 to 9 months of on‑the‑job experience required prior to full performance of responsibilities.
