Overview

- Schedule: Part‑Time, M-F 9 p‑7:30 a, rotating weekends, on‑call including holidays
- Department: Perioperative Float
- Sign On Bonus: $6,000

- Use independent professional judgment, analytical skills, and the nursing process to provide a full range of delegated, interdependent, and independent nursing services to patients.
- Demonstrate clinical competence, compassion, and customer‑service orientation within the framework of the Seven Dimensions of Patient Care and Benner's Domains of Nursing Practice.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary plans of care in accordance with Nursing Problem Care Sets and clinical practice guidelines to achieve quality outcomes and appropriate length of stay.
- Provide patient care honoring patient rights, dignity, culture, preferences, and expressed needs; assess family needs for information and education, plan and implement teaching, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Collaborate with patient, family, hospital staff, and community agencies to develop discharge plans preparing patients for continued care.
- Utilize pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic approaches to ensure patient comfort and pain relief; involve patients and families in care planning.
- Complete admission and shift assessments, medication reconciliation, and ongoing reassessments; monitor patient responses and progress toward outcomes.
- Document nursing interventions (NIC), progress (NOC), patient education, and shift‑to‑shift transitions using established guidelines.
- Implement basic nursing procedures including dressing changes, catheterization, NG tube insertion, and suctioning.
- Initiate standing orders appropriately and assist with all patient‑care activities, including activities of daily living and other comfort services.
- Prevent/minimize patient skin breakdown, falls, VTE, and aspiration using evidence‑based bundles and plans.
- Establish and maintain peripheral IV therapy, obtain body‑fluid specimens, manage blood products when required, and perform capillary glucose monitoring.
- Administer medications, IVs, blood products, and perform or assist with surgical procedures according to guidelines.
- Operate and troubleshoot IV pumps, PCA pumps, epidural pumps, feeding pumps, and patient beds.
- Monitor vital signs, labs, I/O, and blood glucose; recognize and respond to changes in respiratory, neurological, cardiac, and urinary status.
- Use SBAR and other standardized communication tools to notify physicians of patient changes.
- Respond to emergencies with CPR and immediate interventions.
- Provide emotional support to families in crisis or grieving.
- Communicate with other professionals and departments to facilitate patient progress.
- Monitor individual length of stay; notify case manager and nurse manager of discharge issues.
- Identify ethical issues and initiate resolution steps.
- Adhere to patient confidentiality requirements.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and report unresolved complaints to appropriate supervisors.
- Promote a physically safe environment, appropriately use restraints, and follow universal precautions.
- Make cost‑effective use of supplies and resources.
- Assist in evaluating new products, procedures, and nursing practices.
- Support nursing department and unit quality improvement activities, council meetings, and strategic goals.
- Participate in teaching/mentoring of student nurses and orientations.
- Develop a plan for continual improvement based on peer and stakeholder input.
- Complete annual safety and unit‑specific education requirements (GLI).
- Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing within 60 days of the hire date.
- Certified BLS provider (AHA) within 90 days of hire or a certified instructor.
- Graduation from an approved professional RN nursing program.
- Additional preference: none.
- On‑job experience of approximately 3–9 months required for full competency.
