Political Science & Public Administration Visiting Assistant Professor

Overview

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a nine-month Visiting Assistant Professor appointment beginning August 16, 2026 for AY . The position will teach six courses over the academic year, primarily at the undergraduate level, and will include Global Perspectives, International Politics, and Foreign Policy. The successful candidate may also teach Comparative Politics or International Human Rights and will develop at least one course in their area of expertise.

• Teaching six courses over the academic year, primarily at the undergraduate level, including Global Perspectives, International Politics, and Foreign Policy; potential to teach Comparative Politics or International Human Rights; develop at least one course in area of expertise.
• Engaging in scholarly research and service to the Department, College, University, profession, and community.
• Collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, and students in person and online; engaging diverse students and colleagues; adapting to current teaching methods including online delivery.
• Meet and maintain academic qualifications as a Scholarly Academic per the Nistler College faculty guidelines;
  Ph.D. (or ABD) in Political Science or closely related field; evidence of teaching effectiveness in undergraduate courses; successful completion of criminal history records check.

• Effective interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students
• Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues
• Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery

• Evidence of teaching a variety of international relations courses (e.g., international politics, foreign policy)
• Ability to develop and teach an introductory interdisciplinary course on the international community and globalization
• Experience teaching in multiple modalities (on-campus, online asynchronous and synchronous)
• Experience supporting scholarly research aligned with teaching duties
