Purpose of Position

The Senior Electronic Resources Librarian manages acquisitions workflow strategies and activates and maintains the Chester Fritz Library’s (CFL) electronic resource holdings to make them discoverable and accessible. Electronic resource holdings include eBooks, streaming videos, journals, database subscriptions, born digital content, and other electronic collections. Maintenance of these holdings includes tracking perpetual access rights, journal publisher and publication frequency changes, and changes to electronic collections in CFL’s integrated library system, Ex Libris’s Alma/Primo.

Acquisitions includes workflows for print and digital content, as well as special collections. The librarian additionally supports the user experience of CFL’s electronic collections, assisting in troubleshooting access issues, designing user experience studies, and investigating options for improving user access. This position will also support the Head of Collection Strategies around license review and tracking and the Collection Development Team through data visualization and analysis of library collections.

The Senior Electronic Resources Librarian will report to the Head of Collection Strategies and supervise the Subscription and Acquisitions Specialists.

Duties & Responsibilities

Ensure discovery of and access to the Library’s electronic resource holdings

  • Develop procedures and workflows to make the Library’s electronic resources discoverable and accessible.
  • Activate Library’s electronic collections, firm order titles such as eBooks, and digital media such as streaming videos.
  • Track streaming videos used for coursework, renewing their licenses and updating their holdings as needed.
  • Adds online federal government document records from the federal depository library program (FDLP) to Alma/Primo.
  • Implements a workflow for born digital and open access resource acquisitions in collaboration with technical services and digitization.
  • Ensure accuracy of electronic holdings, including checking changes to journal publishers and publication frequency in EBSCOnet and other publisher sources.
  • Track Alma updates to address the impact of electronic collection changes.
  • Collaborates with technical services staff for electronic records cataloging needs.
  • Maintain records of Library’s perpetual access holdings.
  • Support electronic resource accessibility in alignment with the ADA digital accessibility guidelines by communicating with vendors.

Supervises Subscription Specialist and Acquisitions Specialist

  • Meet regularly with supervises to mentor, check-in, and provide support for staff.
  • Advocate for supervises to Head of Collection Strategies in regards to resource requests.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Collection Strategies to hire, train, evaluate & make performance-related decisions.
  • Manage workflow and work assignments for assigned personnel to ensure prompt and accurate selection and organization of new material and responses to patron requests.
  • Manage staff responsible for firm orders and subscription invoices.
  • At the direction of the Head of Collection Strategies, monitor accountability measures and statistics to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and impact of staff efforts.
