The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of North Dakota is seeking an assistant professor of statistics. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position contingent on availability of funding, and the successful candidate will contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as contribute to the department’s scholarly and service missions. The Mathematics & Statistics Department is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and currently offers a BS in Mathematics, MS and MEd in Mathematics, and MS in Applied Statistics.

The department, one of the largest at UND, consists of 28 faculty and teaches thousands of students each year at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics
• Advise and mentor undergraduate students
• Advise and mentor graduate students; direct graduate theses and independent study projects
• Establish a productive research program, such as through publication in peer-reviewed outlets and/or seeking extramural funding to support individual and collaborative projects.
• Serve as a catalyst for attracting and supporting graduate students in the MS in Applied Statistics Program.

• Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
• Ability to work with and engage students and colleagues with a broad range of backgrounds within and outside the Department of Mathematics & Statistics
• Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery
• Earned PhD in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics (with an emphasis in statistics), or Data Science (with an emphasis in statistics) by August 15, 2027.
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
• In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Experience teaching statistics with a focus on data analysis and data science applications
• Experience mentoring students in industrial internships and supervising student projects/independent studies
• Evidence of research potential, such as a record of peer-reviewed publications in quality journals
• Record of involvement in seeking extramural funding
• Experience working on multi-disciplinary research teams
