• $78,000+ Dependent on Experience, 9-month contract, Exempt

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of North Dakota is seeking an assistant professor of statistics. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position contingent on availability of funding, and the successful candidate will contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as contribute to the department’s scholarly and service missions.

The Mathematics & Statistics Department is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and currently offers a BS in Mathematics, MS and MEd in Mathematics, and MS in Applied Statistics. The department, one of the largest at UND, consists of 28 faculty and teaches thousands of students each year at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Established in 1883, the University of North Dakota is the oldest research university in North Dakota. The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate distribution of 50% teaching; 40% research; and 10% service effort. • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics
• Advise and mentor undergraduate students
• Advise and mentor graduate students; direct graduate theses and independent study projects
• Establish a productive research program, such as through publication in peer-reviewed outlets and/or seeking extramural funding to support individual and collaborative projects.
• Serve as a catalyst for attracting and supporting graduate students in the MS in Applied Statistics Program.

• Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
• Ability to work with and engage students and colleagues with a broad range of backgrounds within and outside the Department of Mathematics & Statistics
• Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery

• Earned PhD in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics (with an emphasis in statistics), or Data Science (with an emphasis in statistics) by August 15, 2027.
