Assistant Professor, Art & Design, Tenure Track

The Burgum Arts & Sciences Endowed Chair, Assistant Professor of Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (New Media) in the Visual Arts. This is a tenure-track position.

The Department of Art & Design is seeking to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in any studio art with a specialization in Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (New Media) in the Visual Arts. In addition to salary and benefits, the Burgum Arts & Sciences Endowed Chair will receive professional development funding annually to support travel as well as equipment for teaching and creative activities/research.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, produce creative activities/scholarship, and do service that contributes to the mission of the department, the college, and the university.

Purpose of Position:
The Department of Art & Design at the University of North Dakota is seeking an Assistant Professor in any studio art with a specialization in Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (New Media) in the Visual Arts as the Burgum Arts & Sciences Endowed Chair. The department looks to hire a colleague who holds an MFA in any art form in the visual arts whose creative practices substantially utilize new technological media and/or AI to produce artistic objects and/or immersive environments.

The ideal candidate may also engage in original scholarship and/or theory on issues related to the integration of emerging technologies in the artworld and analysis of its impacts within broader social and cultural contexts. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position supported by the Burgum Arts & Sciences Endowed Chair Endowment, contingent on availability of funding.

The Department of Art & Design is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and currently offers an MFA in Visual Arts, BFAs in Visual Arts and Graphic Design, a BA in Visual Arts, and minors in Art History, Graphic Design, and Visual Arts. The department is the recipient of a generous annually recurring endowment from the Myers Foundations that supports a robust visiting artists program, curation of art exhibitions, and resources to enhance student teaching and learning among other activities.
