Description:
The NICU Respiratory Therapist performs and documents evaluations and patient assessments.
This position provides diagnostic and therapeutic treatment and appropriate education.
The therapist identifies significant changes in a patient's condition and documents appropriately.
Job responsibilities include providing diagnostic and therapeutic treatment and physician assistance.
The therapist also provides appropriate patient education, family teaching, and support that correlate to the needs of the patient and family.
Documentation must be completed appropriately.
Significant changes in a patient's condition must be identified, and the appropriate actions must be taken according to standard operating procedures.
Pertinent information should be communicated to appropriate caregivers.
All documentation, including order entry, verification, electronic medical record (EMR), medication charting, patient safety/incident variance reports, and equipment repair tags, must be completed according to standard operating procedures.
Patient charges should be processed as necessary.
The therapist runs and verifies reports as needed.
The respiratory therapist disassembles, cleans, assembles respiratory equipment, and performs preventative maintenance according to standard operating procedures.
Equipment in need of preventative maintenance, safety check, or repair should be properly tagged and reported to the appropriate department.
The therapist is responsible for the transport of infants to and from referral health systems.
High-quality critical care must be provided in accordance with established patient care guidelines.
The respiratory therapist will perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department or organization.
New graduates must obtain a registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care within 12 months of the start date (RRT).
