Role Overview:
This is a seasonal position. You can use winters off to travel, hunt, fish or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year-round
.
This position is responsible to safely operate a heavy rolling machine to compact earth, subgrade or bituminous surface to grade specifications per contract. It requires a professional and courteous attitude with customers and team members.
The typical schedule is Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM with one to two Saturdays per month - 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
Responsibilities- Perform daily equipment walk-around and site inspections to identify and correct unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
- Safely and properly perform maintenance on equipment as needed.
- Safely and properly operate roller.
- Identify appropriate rolling pattern and drive the machine in successive overlapping passes over the surface to be compacted to prepare a quality surface.
- Determine speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of material compressibility under changing temperatures, to prevent ridges from forming.
- Assist laborer or roller operator with dumping trucks and keeping load counts.
- Help clean curb and gutter areas.
- Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with people under high stress. Be a self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; maintain positive customer relations and show courtesy/respect for others.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve situations related to material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc. Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulations.
- Assist in loading and unloading equipment for transport, including loading operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
As a successful Roller Operator you will have:
- Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.
- 2+ years of equipment operation and maintenance (Roller) preferred.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime and some Saturdays.
