About the Role

The Laborer position in Grand Forks, ND, is essential for supporting various construction and maintenance projects within the region. This role involves performing a variety of physical tasks that contribute to the successful completion of projects on time and within budget. Track Maintenance Crew Members will work closely with skilled tradespeople and supervisors to ensure that all work is carried out safely and efficiently.

The major end result of this position is to maintain a high standard of quality in all tasks while adhering to safety regulations and protocols. Ultimately, this position will play a crucial role in the overall productivity and success of the team and projects undertaken.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver's License preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and lift heavy objects.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices in a construction environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a labor or construction role.
  • Familiarity with operating hand and power tools.
  • Certification in safety training or first aid.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and cleanup of job sites, ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
  • Perform manual labor tasks such as digging, lifting, and carrying materials as directed by supervisors.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks and ensure the well‑being of all team members.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and to the required specifications.

Summary: The Track Maintenance Crew Member position performs a variety of tasks involving physical labor at project sites, utilizing hand and power tools and other equipment. Travel will be required for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install and repair railroad track at specified project sites or on railroad property.
  • Utilize and become proficient with the use of hand and power tools specific to railroad repair, maintenance, and construction.
Competencies
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in railroad or related field.
  • Experience with tools and machines, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow verbally issued instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand specific instructions and work specifications.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to work as a team, to jointly carry out assigned tasks.
  • Travel required 25%.
  • Will perform work on Northern Plains Railroad as directed.
Education and Training
  • GED or higher.
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred.
  • Must have and maintain an insurable driving status which includes but is not limited to NPRS driver provisions.
Environmental
  • Continuous:
    Must be able to work outdoors in all extreme weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather. Exposure to dust.
  • Frequent:
    Noise.
  • Occasional:
    Vibration works at heights.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to perform on uneven or slippery surfaces, platforms, ladders, and equipment in all weather and temperature conditions.
  • Most of the day could be spent standing on foot with eye/hand coordination, hand/feet dexterity and grasping hand tools, materials & equipment required.
