Financial Aid Specialist

Central Community College provides an awesome benefit package to full-time employees!

  • No employee premiums for Health/Dental Insurance; CCC pays 100% of the premium cost regardless of elected coverage level.
  • Retirement contribution from CCC 9% (staff) and up to 10% (faculty).
  • Staff:
    Vacation accrual of 1.5 days/month and paid holidays, including a week long winter break.

Position Summary Information Qualifications Required Associate’s Degree

General Summary The Financial Aid Specialist ensures the delivery of financial aid in compliance with college, federal and state regulations. This role provides advising and support to students and families throughout the financial aid process, manages external scholarships and agency funding, verifies documentation, and participates in policy development and professional growth.

Essential Functions Compliance and Procedures: Adhere to established financial aid office procedures to ensure the delivery of aid in compliance with college, federal, state, and guarantee agency regulations. Recommend improvements to processes and policies as appropriate.

Essential Functions Client Service and Advising: Serve as first point of contact for students and families, providing information on financial aid options, scholarships, and eligibility criteria. Advise on application processes, assess financial need, conduct outreach, and deliver presentations. Provide clear explanations of complex financial aid concepts. Manages the area wide financial aid email account and phone line.

Essential Functions Verification and Document Management: Review and maintain financial aid applications and supporting documentation to verify accuracy of information reported on the FAFSA . Identify and resolve discrepancies, requesting additional documentation as needed. Recalculate and update financial aid awards when eligibility changes. Exercise a high degree of accuracy, independent working and attention to detail to ensure compliance and avoid unintended consequences, such as over-awarding, loss of eligibility, audit findings, or penalties.

Essential Functions Work-Study Program Support: Assists with the administration of the campus Federal Work-Study Program, including processing applications, I-9 and W-4 forms, and terminations. Supports student placement, monitors award amounts, communicates with supervisors, and prepares reports for the Assistant Financial Aid Director. Provides orientation and Time Clock Plus training for Work-Study students.

Essential Functions College Scholarship Management Support: Assists in administering the college scholarship program by distributing promotional materials and application information; communicating with donors, high school counselors, applicants, and selection committee members; and following up with applicants regarding missing requirements.
