Job Description
PurposeThe purpose of this position is to provide vision, leadership, and proclamation of God’s Word in alignment with the purpose statement and philosophy of ministry of Alma Berean Church.
Alma Berean Church is a part of the Berean Fellowship of Churches. It is located in Alma, Nebraska, a town of about 1200 people, in the south-central part of the state. The town is located on Harlan County Reservoir, a recreational lake. The church joined the Berean Fellowship in July of 2017. We are a growing multigenerational congregation with an average of 85 attenders for Sunday morning worship.
We have Wednesday afternoon 252
Kids for grades K-5 and Compass Youth Group for grades 7-12. We also have active Women’s and Men’s Small Groups.
We desire to be a vital and growing church prayerfully guided by the Holy Spirit with Christ as our head, founded on the Word of God. We have goals to be an authentic, caring, loving group, committed to making disciples who understand and live out the teachings of Jesus Christ. We want to reach our local community and have an impact globally.
Qualifications- 1. The individual is a “born again believer in Christ” and has a consistent, growing walk with the Lord.
- 2. The individual endorses the Alma Berean Church doctrinal statement and by-laws.
- 3. The individual has the conviction, passion and giftedness to equip and lead with a servant’s heart. (Ephesians 4:12; John 13:5, Mark 10:43-45)
- 4. The individual will understand the need for balance between an “inward look,” equipping the Saints for the work of ministry, and an “outward look,” reaching the lost.
- 5. The individual feels God’s call upon their life for this position.
- 1. When a suitable candidate is found and recommended by the Search Team to the Elder Board, the candidate and his wife will be invited for an initial visit to observe the overall ministry of Alma Berean Church, and to meet with the Board of Elders.
- 2. If the Elder Board has a favorable response to the candidate and his wife’s visit and their time with them, it will seek the assistance of its Regional Fellowship. If after reviewing a pastoral candidate the representatives of the Regional Fellowship do not recommend the candidate as a lead pastor, the search team should continue to review resumes to identify a different candidate to recommend.
- 3. If the Regional Fellowship representatives recommend the candidate as a lead pastor, and if the Elder Board wishes to proceed, it shall extend an invitation to the candidate to make a return visit where he will minister the Word and he and his wife will meet with the congregation, leadership, and Elders of Alma Berean Church.
- 4. Upon the leading of the Holy Spirit to both the candidate and Elders of Alma Berean Church a vote of the congregation will be taken. Upon an affirmative vote of three-fourths of the congregation present at a specially called meeting, a call shall be extended to the candidate.
- 5. The Lead Pastor will submit to a background check.
- 6. The Lead Pastor will attend both the Leadership Retreat (ENGAGE) and the annual Berean National Convention (CONNECT) whenever possible.
- 7. The Lead Pastor will undergo a yearly ministry review alongside the Elders of Alma Berean Church; both evaluating and being evaluated on the strengths and weaknesses of their ministry.
- 1.The Lead Pastor will seek to understand the culture of Alma Berean Church and provide vision and leadership to accomplish the mission statement of Alma Berean Church, “In obedience to the command of Jesus Christ, Alma Berean Church, will lead its people to become disciples of Jesus Christ, defined as:
To KNOW and FOLLOW Jesus, to be CHANGED by Jesus, and to COMMIT to Jesus’ mission, to make disciples of the nations.” - 2. The Lead Pastor will chair the Board of Elders, or the Elder Board shall appoint a Chairman to lead the board upon ratification by the Elders. Further he will work with the Elders to suggest and ratify new or additional Elders.
