Nurse Educator
GENERAL
SUMMARY:
Responsible for the assessment, coordination, and implementation of nursing and other clinical education programs. Develops and continuously evaluates the structure and process that supports internal orientations, continuing education, and staff development activities. Administers continuing education approval within appropriate governing bodies. Collaborates with nursing leadership to determine continuing education priorities and expectations. Provides leadership and supervision of daily operations for assigned services or patient care units.
Ensures the delivery of quality, patient-centered care in a manner reflective of the Bryan Health - GIRMC mission, vision, values and beliefs. Possesses managerial and clinical skills appropriate to the scope of responsibility. Maintains 24/7 accountability for assigned unit(s).
Supervises Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and/or other support staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statute 38.
PRINCIPALJOB FUNCTIONS:

* Designs, implements, and coordinates in-service nursing education programs for GIRMC. Conducts needs assessment of the medical center and key stakeholders regarding education priorities. Establishes education and program plan based on needs assessment and alignment with the organizational strategic plan. - 3.
* Directs GIRMC procedures for nursing orientation, onboarding, competency validation and preceptor expectations. Develops training programs for staff to be successful in all programs. - 4.
* Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, coaching, mentoring, retaining and evaluating of staff. - 5. Coordinates with external accreditation organizations and stays abreast of changes in service standards to ensure current training programs are providing the proper education to clinicians, while meeting the needs of the organization.
- 6. Participates in division and hospital-wide committees and projects as assigned.
- 7. Oversees staff in the development of educational forums/programs.
- 8. Develops operating budgets to align with program and resource needs in accordance with budget timetables; manages areas of responsibility to assure cost-effective and efficient operations.
- 9. Directs processes for all clinical affiliation agreements. Manages contracts with hospital and educational institutions for students and professionals providing care at GI Regional Medical Center. Directs communication to educational institutions when necessary.
- 10. Coordinates annual GIRMC calendar of training courses and clinical experiences for students ensuring minimal conflicts, manages training logistics (room set up, catering, technology).
- 11. Collaborates with key stakeholders to monitor and communicate mandatory regulatory training and escalates as appropriate. Builds and monitors training completion reports and dashboards for required training.
- 12. Stays abreast of regulatory training requirements of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Centers for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). Provides training records during the audits.
- 13. Coordinates leader and clinical faculty onboarding processes to ensure enrollment in appropriate orientation, ongoing development, and online curriculum offerings.
- 14. Coordinates and manages classes and contact hours for BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP and in other required certifications.
- 15. Maintains train the trainer for Workplace Violence team and assists with training of leadership and staff.
- 16. Designs and develops online learning using authoring tools and publishes online courses to the Learning Management system (LMS) and collaborates with the team supporting the learning & performance management system to ensure system functionality meets the learning and competency needs of GIRMC.
- 17. Designs and maintains assessments and measuring tools for course curriculum that supports course objectives, achievement tests, questionnaires, simulations scenarios, grading criteria and program outcomes.
- 18. Plans, establishes, implements, communicates and evaluates goals and objectives and mandatory completion requirements for the Nurse Residency program in conjunction with Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
- 19. Maintains regular communication and regional and national program partners of the Vizient nurse residency program.
- 20. Provides leadership and assistance to the Nurse Residency program advisory board, coordinates advisory board memberships and meetings.
- 21. Ensures GIRMC adheres to American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines to maintain training center status. As well as prepares for and effectively facilitates the American Heart Association (AHA) curriculum within the AHA guidelines.
