Registered Nurse (RN) – IMC/PCU/Stepdown

Grand Island, NE | Stepdown/PCU

Contract | Night Shift | Onsite | Every other weekend required | Holidays as needed

• Provide direct patient care in a 33-bed Stepdown/PCU unit serving a diverse population including young adults through geriatrics with diagnoses such as sepsis, STEMI, CHF, stroke, COPD, DKA, renal failure, and complex multisystem conditions
• Titrate drips including Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and IV antibiotics, as well as administer maintenance IV medications
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips independently; unit utilizes telemetry/monitor support but RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips
• Manage BiPAP and Airvo respiratory therapy equipment as needed
• Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5, with CNA support at a 1:10 ratio; float to Med Surg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care as needed
• Participate in bedside report, hourly rounding, and a high-volume patient flow environment involving admissions and discharges within the same shift

• Active RN license in good standing
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Must successfully pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; compliance is required for contract continuation
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; a valid driver's license will be required at time of submittal to verify distance
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with Common Spirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health

• Prior experience in a Stepdown, PCU, or IMC setting with exposure to complex, acutely ill patients
• Demonstrated ability to titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips in a fast-paced environment
• Strong teamwork orientation with a positive, patient-centered attitude and commitment to quality care
• Experience with telemetry interpretation and familiarity with BiPAP/high-flow respiratory support

• Work in a dynamic, collaborative unit with structured orientation including classroom training and supervised floor shifts to set you up for success
• Be part of an evolving unit transitioning to a virtual nursing model designed to enhance support resources and improve the care team experience
