Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the operation, construction, maintenance and repair of City parks, recreation facilities, athletic fields and other related facilities.

- May assist in the operation of construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, and loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations in the assigned area of responsibility; assist in snow removal activities.
- Utilize a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment as assigned.
- Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
- Perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving the maintenance, construction and repair of park and recreational facilities.
- May assist in other sections of the Department as necessary.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Set up and maintain athletic fields for games and practices.
- Monitor game schedules or set up fields for different age divisions.
- Drag and rake fields, chalk and paint fields.
- Supervise and work with summer staff to complete assigned tasks.
- Manicure turf areas.
- Collect trash at fields and complex areas.
- Program irrigation clocks and adjust sprinklers.
- Work a weekend schedule as required.
- Monitor, service and repair various pumps and motors at pools.
- Manicure turf areas.
- Repair pool structures and facilities as needed. Perform basic carpentry work and painting for building and maintaining pool facilities and equipment.
- Keep pool records.
- Take water sample to determine chlorine, alkalinity, water PH and acid levels, and make adjustments.
- Clean pools and pool areas.
- Be able to work in water.
- Perform a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of City's irrigation systems, including pipe, sprinklers, wiring, valves and time clocks.
- Program time clocks; observe and adjust watering rates as needed.
- Perform the startup of irrigation systems in the spring and winterizing systems in the fall.
- Basic knowledge of diesel, gas and electric motors.
- Repair hydraulics, electrical and mechanical equipment parts. Must be able to weld.
- Repair various equipment and vehicles used in the Parks Department.
- Keep updated records on equipment and vehicles.
- Perform basic carpentry work and painting for building and maintaining recreational facilities and equipment.
- Basic landscaping knowledge; manicure turf, fertilize, trim trees, plant and remove trees.
- Play structure installation and repair.
- Perform custodial duties.
- Methods, techniques, and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
- Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in truck and equipment operations.
- Purposes and uses of a variety of vehicles, equipment, power tools and hand tools including welders, motorized pneumatic and hydraulic equipment related to assigned area of responsibility.
- Work in a variety of weather.
- Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Provide functional and technical supervision to less experienced personnel.
- Work effectively in the absence of close supervision.
- Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and other equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assist in the training and supervision of others in the safe operation of equipment and performance of functions.
- One to two years of experience comparable to that of a maintenance position within the described work areas.
- Must have at least two years of experience in irrigation systems.
- Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade.
Employee must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurability as determined by the City’s insurance carrier.
Working HoursWinter work hours (November-March):
Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.
-3:30 p.m.;
Summer work hours (April-October):
Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m.
-3:00 p.m. Weekend hours may be required and are dependent upon department needs.
This position’s primary focus will be the athletic fields for the Parks Department, with strong emphasis on commercial irrigation knowledge.
