Perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of the City cemetery.
Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
Operate maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, backhoe and loaders for a variety of maintenance operations in the assigned area of responsibility; assist in snow removal activities.
Utilize a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment as assigned.
Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
Perform maintenance duties of cemetery buildings.
Perform basic plumbing duties on the cemetery water systems.
Perform basic carpentry work and painting for building and maintaining cemetery facilities and equipment.
Open and close graves as necessary; assist in funeral preparations; assist public in locating graves.
Perform a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of cemetery's irrigation systems.
Water, mow, weed, trim, sod, renovate and fertilize lawns; prune trees and shrubs; plant trees, flowers and shrubs; trim trees.
May assist in other sections of the Department as necessary.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:- Methods, techniques, and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
- Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in truck and equipment operations.
- Purposes and uses of a variety of vehicles, equipment, power tools and hand tools including motorized pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
- Uses and purposes of general maintenance tools and equipment.
- Proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Perform tasks in a variety of operation and maintenance activities.
- Perform difficult manual labor tasks including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending and twisting.
- Interpret Cemetery records and maps regarding the location and layout of various cemetery lots.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Provide functional and technical supervision to less experienced personnel.
- Work effectively in the absence of close supervision.
- Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and other equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assist in the training and supervision of others in the safe operation of equipment and performance of functions.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:One to two years of experience comparable to that of maintenance positions within the described work areas.
Training:Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
License or Certification:Employee must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurability as determined by the City’s insurance carrier.
Working Hours:Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.
-4:00 p.m.
Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
