Curriculum and Learning Design Specialist (STEM/Computer Science)

The Curriculum Specialist works under the Director to support the implementation of the Teaching & Learning Framework district-wide. This role involves coaching teachers, leading professional learning opportunities, and ensuring the framework is integrated into instructional practices at all grade levels. The specialist also collaborates with district stakeholders to align the unified curriculum and the teaching and learning framework with educational goals outlined in the strategic plan while continuously assessing effectiveness and making data-driven improvements.

Additionally, the role includes maintaining a professional learning calendar and communicating progress to key stakeholders.

Job Responsibility Description

Curriculum Development & Framework Implementation

Develop, implement, and monitor STEM and Computer Science curriculum aligned to the District's unified curriculum instruction and assessment plan (UCIA), board adopted resources, and practices in the Teaching & Learning Framework. Participate on the Curriculum Resource Governance Committee, conduct program evaluation of content Board adopted resources, and facilitate instructional resource selection processes. Integrate career-connected learning opportunities and Graduate Profile competencies into STEM/Computer Science curriculum and instructional practices.

Support the development and implementation of STEM and Computer Science curriculum, ensuring alignment with district standards, the Teaching & Learning Framework, and strategic plan priorities including career-connected learning and graduate profile competencies. Collaborate with content teams and schools to design interdisciplinary, real-world learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem solving, and application of learning.

Professional Learning & Instructional Support

Provide coaching and technical support to educators on effective implementation of curriculum, instructional resources, and framework-aligned practices. Design and facilitate professional learning focused on STEM/Computer Science instruction, including computational thinking, project-based learning, and career-connected learning. Develop and maintain a year-long professional learning calendar aligned to district priorities, including clear action items, timelines, outcomes, and budget considerations. Adjust professional learning based on feedback, data, and observed instructional needs.

Support educators in embedding graduate profile competencies and learning behaviors into instruction.

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum, professional learning, and STEM/Computer Science initiatives. Collect and analyze data from teachers, administrators, and students to assess impact on teaching and learning. Use data to inform continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, and professional learning systems. Track student engagement, access, and outcomes related to STEM/Computer Science pathways and career-connected learning.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Partner with curriculum, assessment, and student support teams to ensure aligned systems and supports. Communicate objectives, progress, and outcomes to key stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, and parents. Coordinate and support district-wide STEM and Computer Science initiatives, including extracurricular programs, student competitions, showcases, and community-based learning experiences. Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, industry, and community organizations to expand career-connected learning opportunities for students.

Collaborate with school leaders to strengthen equitable access to STEM and Computer Science opportunities. Plan, coordinate, and support STEM-related events such as fairs, competitions, showcases, and student experiences that highlight innovation, career pathways, and applied learning.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in education, STEM-related field or other closely related area required. Master's Degree preferred. National Board Certification preferred. Minimum five years as an effective classroom teacher required. Classroom experience teaching in content specific area preferred. Demonstrated experience leading professional learning preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of and involvement in curriculum, instruction, and assessment preferred. Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Educator License required.

Working Conditions:
