Technician, SPED Registered Behavior
Operating as a member of the District's Special Education Instructional Team (SIT) and under the direct supervision of the assigned Sped Coordinator this role provides implementation support for Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). The Behavior Technician works directly with certified and classified staff training and providing behavior related supports for identified students. Position supports our school-based special education teams by assisting teachers and other staff through modeling, demonstration, observation, and feedback protocols.
Registered Behavior Tech is often teaching aspects of social emotion learning that require school-based assignments of an interim time period. A typical assignment is estimated at a 3-5 day period in one school; however, employee is reassigned as needed and may work for longer or shorter periods on a single assignment as determined by the SIT Team. Other duties include aspects of data collection and meeting required reporting expectations.
Employee is considered a technical resource regarding behavior topics and is expected to facilitate staff, student and parental interactions with the highest level of customer service and professionalism.

1. Coordinates, trains and assists school-based staff in the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for identified students that may benefit from focused social emotional learning and social skills. Position supports our school-based special education teams by assisting teachers and support staff through modeling, demonstration, observation, and feedback in special education learning environments and while following established protocols and treatment plans.
Behavior Technicians utilize and demonstrate an understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles such as Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), preference assessments, reinforcement schedules, etc., in all interactions. Direct student contact is occurs while providing training, modeling, and demonstrations however, employee is working to build the capacity of school-based staff around behavior interventions and responses. Students are assessed and identified by SEIST and behavior plans are designed with the Registered Behavior Technician providing the site-based supports over an extended interval as the teachers and other staff gain understandings, skills, and capacity.
With an expectation for a high level of professionalism and operating under the SIT team's direction this employee models appropriate function based interventions.
2. Data collection using data-based behavioral principles including antecedent, behavior, and consequence charts are an expectation of the Behavior Tech. Employee will use a variety of data collection measures, ensuring fidelity and veracity. Responsibilities include providing training and guidance to school-based staff regarding data collection methods/processes and reporting requirements. Employee provides results of data collections and reports to the Teacher, Supervisor, and SIT when appropriate.
Employee responsibilities include an understanding of the Heath Insurance Privacy and Portability Act (HIPPA) and how best to handle highly confidential and sensitive student data.
3. Facilitates and promotes a role as a trusted resource to students and staff regarding research based behavioral techniques. This position works in close proximity to students throughout the day demonstrating the skill set and positive decision-making. Occasionally, the behavior technician may intervene to halt or prevent disturbances, or to diffuse threatening and confrontational situations. The duties within this responsibility include but are not limited to general and regular communication with students and assisting certified staff or other service providers in student participation.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and related work experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required and;
Registered Behavior Technician Certification or ability to attain Certification within first year of employment is acceptable in lieu of;
Minimum of two years' direct experience working with children and/or students; preference for prior social emotional learning or behavior intervention experience;
Minimum two years of experience working with students; preference given for prior school district experience;
Preference given for prior experience working with children who have social/emotional/behavioral disabilities. Acceptable demonstration of education and/or experience is at the sole discretion of the Director of Student Services. Employee must obtain and retain Registered Behavior Technician…
