The primary responsibility of a Secondary Literacy Specialist is to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of applicable District instructional programs with an emphasis on developing 21st‑century skills. The Specialist is responsible for providing an instructional program, including curriculum and assessment design, to assist teachers in developing skills in lesson planning, content presentation, and classroom management. The Specialist will assist with the implementation of best practices in the classroom through demonstration lessons, observation of teachers, reflective sessions, facilitation of PLCs, and professional development activities.
Qualifications– Required
- Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire.
- Endorsement/Credentials in assigned area:
English Language Arts. - Master's Degree in Education or related content area.
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience in English Language Arts.
- Completion of a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and clearance by the Office of Human Resources.
- Effective communication in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Previous coaching experience.
- Master's Degree in education or related field.
- 3–5 years minimum secondary English Language Arts, Humanities, or Social Studies teaching experience.
- Experience with district curriculum and assessment development.
- Experience coaching teachers or facilitating professional development.
- Experience leading data team meetings and PLCs.
- Experience developing scope and sequence documents.
- Experience in Pueblo School District No. 60 curriculum adoption process.
- In‑depth understanding of state standards, curriculum, and assessment programs in English Language Arts.
- Demonstrated success in using data to improve instruction.
- Preparation and presentation of high‑quality, research‑based professional development.
- Effective verbal and written communication locally and externally.
- Organizational and planning skills for short‑term and long‑term goals.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships.
- Initiative and ability to work independently and in groups.
- Approachable professional manner with district colleagues and school staff.
- Ability to organize, communicate, make decisions, and collaborate as a team.
- Resource identification, acquisition, and organization to support teachers and schools.
- Direct teacher contact for classroom support, data review, co‑planning, co‑teaching, and coaching.
