Position

Summary

Operational Technology Specialist responsible for inventory tracking, standards development, and deployment & maintenance of OT across the enterprise. The role will lead and/or assist in troubleshooting system issues, from the endpoint to the application through the various layers of communication and processing of data. The Specialist will help direct installations, reconfigurations, and maintenance on electrical systems, equipment, devices, and/or components which may include but are not limited to physical access control systems (PACS), environmental control systems (lighting and/or HVAC automation, audio/visual (AV) control systems), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, controllers, instrumentation, pumps, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), switches, as well as Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as cameras and monitoring systems.

The person will develop standards, procedures, and policies for the types of equipment and deployments compliant with Federal cybersecurity requirements to ensure consistency for Department of Energy (DOE) Legacy Management (LM) OT systems.

Hiring Range: $70,000.00 to $85,000.00 per year (salary based on selected applicant’s education, training, and experience)
Travel: Required 25‑50% of the time

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop hardware, software, and configuration standards and supporting policies for OT/IoT lifecycle management in collaboration with stakeholders, vendors, and support groups.
  • Collect and maintain an asset inventory of all OT/IoT‑related systems across the full lifecycle.
  • Create documentation for SCADA/EMCS work and illustrate full functionality with completion of work and testing.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose all forms of errors and inconsistencies with endpoint devices and integration into SCADA environments.
  • Track vulnerabilities and apply patches to systems and/or devices on a regular schedule.
  • Track, apply, and document password updates for applicable OT/IoT devices.
  • Coordinate closely with site operations and other relevant teams to communicate potential disruptions to normal operations.
  • Respond to unplanned disruptions in a timely manner to help resolve OT/IoT issues; some administration may be remote, others may require travel to LM sites across the U.S.
  • Support the integrity of the System Security Plan, create corrective action plans for identified issues, and manage all supporting processes.
  • Provide guidance and support for ongoing upkeep of SCADA/EMCS systems; verify accuracy of data and equipment, metering values, alarm points, etc., often working with SMEs to establish standards for specific systems.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries regarding new and existing OT/IoT and participate in project planning and execution involving OT/IoT.
  • Deploy and maintain technology compliant with Federal cybersecurity requirements such as NIST and ISA/IEC 62443 where technically feasible.
  • Perform cyber risk assessments for OT/IoT technologies that are not technically feasible to be compliant with Federal cybersecurity requirements.
  • Coordinate and schedule field work needed to install and keep equipment operational.
  • Participate in training or continuing education activities to stay current with industry advances.
  • Other duties as assigned.
