Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead

HDR is seeking a Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead to report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead. The role focuses on planning, managing, and orchestrating geologic and geotechnical initiatives associated with trenchless technologies across engineering, design, and construction applications.

• Lead and execute comprehensive geotechnical investigations for various trenchless projects, including fieldwork, subcontracted drilling crews, soil and rock logging, and laboratory coordination.
• Generate geotechnical and engineering reports, including boring logs, cross‑sections, and design reports.
• Represent HDR’s Trenchless Services team at client meetings and coordinate with the broader team on integrating geotechnical data into project deliverables.
• Maintain data management and quality control of geological data using Open Ground and/or gINT, and produce deliverables with these software tools.
• Assist in geotechnical analyses of subsurface conditions, calculate parameters for models such as hydraulic fracture and inadvertent returns, and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Incorporate geological and geotechnical data into critical design determinations, create cross‑sections, and support design teams.
• Advance capabilities in software programs (gINT, Open Ground, ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD Civil 3D) to generate trenchless deliverables.
• Support other business groups within HDR, including transportation, water, federal, and resources projects.
• Travel as necessary for site reconnaissance, field logging, and construction oversight.
• Manage workload, delegate tasks, and lead a team of geotechnical professionals, including mentoring, performance reviews, and training.
• Plan resources, forecast costs, schedule activities, and manage risk for all geological and geotechnical initiatives.

• Experience with Open Ground software.
• Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in remote environments.
• Leadership experience managing direct reports and subconsultants.
• Four‑year degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or related field.
• Strong interpersonal, customer‑service, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, gINT, ArcGIS, and Auto Desk.
• Willingness to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Post‑Graduate (PG) credentials.
• Knowledge of ASTM Standards for geotechnical concepts and material classification.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical or related engineering disciplines.
• Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.

The expected compensation range for this position is $120,182 – $172,810.
