Join the largest domestic water provider on the Western Slope that keeps life’s essential water flowing. As part of our Meter Reading team, you’ll work independently in the field, walking or driving assigned routes, to accurately record water usage for homes and businesses. In this important customer-facing role, you’ll inspect meters, troubleshoot issues, and ensure our billing system has the precise data it needs to serve the District’s customers.
Our Meter Readers are crucial to our distribution system, working directly in the field, identifying leaks or infrastructure problems, performing maintenance, responding to service requests, and ensuring meters remain operable and in good working condition. This position works closely with Customer Service and Billing teams and regularly interacts with customers, requiring strong communication and professionalism.

This position requires:- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- A minimum of six (6) months of trade experience (e.g., carpentry, concrete, construction, electrical, equipment operation, machining, painting, plumbing, welding, etc.).
- A valid Colorado Driver's License, in good standing, with insurability under the District’s insurance standards.
- Completion of entry‑level driver training in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, and obtaining a Colorado Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement, within one (1) year from the date of hire into the position.
- Flagger, Trenching & Excavation, Confined Space, Forklift, and CPR/First Aid training is required but obtained on the job.
- A 40-hour work week, working overtime with or without notice, and responding to emergencies when required.
- Working a regular seven (7) day rotational on‑call schedule and on‑call shifts as needed.
- Flexible working hours to work rotating shifts, including early mornings, days, nights, holidays, and weekends, and fills in for absent employees when needed.
- Highly desirable qualifications include prior construction experience, equipment operation experience, and a Class A CDL with air brakes
- Veteran status
- Trade skills of all varieties.
- Valid State of Colorado Water Distribution System Operator I-IV Certification
- Knowledge of raw water collection and conveyance, domestic water distribution and transmission, and treatment systems.
Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities of the position.
