Position OverviewThe Chipping Crew Foreman is a skilled/trainable position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a crew of employees that will be doing mainly chipseal (summer), as well as a wide variety of tasks including asphalt patching, asphalt paving, and other general duties. This position will primarily perform supervisory duties, but on occasions may assist with general laborer and equipment operation tasks as needed.
Wage: $26‑$30 per hour, dependent on experience.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinates daily work activities, job site organization, and reading of plans.
- Supervises and schedules work crews.
- Organizes job site goals, timelines, and budgets.
- Orders required supplies and materials.
- Drives to various job site locations.
- Assists with general laborer duties as needed (shoveling, laying asphalt, other tasks).
- Assists with heavy equipment operation, if trained.
- Maintains time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, percentages, and square yards; interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one‑on‑one setting.
- Subject to drug testing, medical exams, and physical ability testing.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of related construction experience or equivalent education and training.
- Frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above shoulders.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move materials up to 50‑75 lbs.
- Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme cold or heat.
- Noise level usually moderate to loud.
