Position Overview

The Asphalt Plant Laborer is a skilled role controlling and operating multiple types of asphalt equipment and performing various manual tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greasing and adjusting plant equipment.
  • Pulling oil, asphalt, and cold feed samples.
  • Collecting shot temperatures.
  • Safely and efficiently operating skid steer/man lift.
  • General upkeep of the plant area.
  • Assisting with plant maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience or training in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred:
    Minimum 3 years of road construction experience.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen, and criminal background check.
  • Must maintain a current driver’s license that meets state requirements.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Require PPE in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA (e.g., face shield, safety shoes, coveralls).
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under various working conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment such as loaders, backhoes, trucks, and asphalt paving equipment requiring skill and independent judgment.

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, or listen.
  • Frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above shoulders.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move from 35 to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
